IndiaGo airline’s gesture of honouring a Kargil war hero who was onboard their Pune flight is winning over the internet. On Sunday, the pilot of the airline addressed the passengers and introduced them to Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar, who is one of the 21 recipients of the Param Vir Chakra. As the passengers applauded Kumar, the pilot retold Kumar’s heroic actions during the Kargil war fought between India and Pakistan in 1999. The airlines also presented a small token of gratitude to Kumar for his service to the country.
The airlines also posted a video of this gesture on their Twitter account. This tweet has over 15,000 likes.
As per the Ministry of Defence website, Kumar was given India’s highest military honour for “his actions as a leading scout of the attacking column at Point 4875 in Mushkoh Valley”.

Commenting on it, a Twitter user wrote, “Heartwarming video ! I have had the honour of meeting Sanjay Kumar sir and he is the humblest person you’ll come across, speaks politely and always praises his officers for whatever he could contribute. This coming from a person who has the highest wartime military decoration!!”
Kumar is among the three living recipients of the Param Vir Chakra, alongside Captain Bana Singh and Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav. On July 26, the country will mark the 24th anniversary of the Kargil War and will commemorate its win by marking the Kargil Vijay Diwas.
