Ayodhya’s Ram Temple celebrated ‘Deepotsav’ on Wednesday, illuminating over 25 lakh diyas and performing a laser show ahead of Diwali. A record was achieved for the most people performing ‘aarti’ simultaneously; the other was the largest display of oil diyas.

Reports said over 25 lakh earthen lamps were lit, and 1,121 ‘vedacharyas’ performed the ‘aarti’ together. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the celebrations along with state cabinet members and other dignitaries. The CM ignited the first few diyas to mark the Deepostav—the first since the January 22 ‘Pran Prathishta’ of the Ram temple this year.

In the now-viral video, lakhs of diyas light up the banks of the Saryu River. The celebrations also saw performances by artistes from six countries—Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Indonesia—along with a Ram Leela presentation from Uttarakhand.

The Deepotsav took place on 55 ghats, including Ram ki Paidi and the Saryu river. Drones were also deployed to count the diyas that set the world record.

“This is the first festival of lights 500 years after our beloved Lord Shri Ramlala has been re-installed in his grand temple. This divine and magnificent form of Shri Ayodhya Dham, illuminated with a wonderful and supernatural aura, is making all of us feel the Treta Yuga. Today Ayodhya is happy, entire India is proud. Hearty congratulations and salutations to all Ram devotees participating in ‘Deepotsav 2024’! Hail Lord Ram!” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote on X.
