Misinformation has become one of the biggest threats of our time, and artificial intelligence is only making the problem worse. A Bengaluru-based founder and CEO, Deepak Kanakaraju, recently highlighted this in a playful yet thought-provoking LinkedIn post.
Kanakaraju shared what looked like a selfie with Elon Musk, captioned: “Just had a casual meeting with Elon.” To make it more convincing, he even added a supposed Musk quote: “The real danger of AI isn’t robots taking jobs… it’s how easily fake news will spread. Imagine someone posting a random photo with me and pretending I said something profound.”
Of course, the meeting never happened, the photo wasn’t real, and the quote was made up. But that was exactly the point –– the post demonstrated how convincingly AI can fabricate images and stories, blurring the line between reality and illusion.
The responses were a mix of amusement and unease. An individual wrote, “This is the scary truth. With every AI upgrade, it is getting more sophisticated. It feels that now we will know the news before it actually happens.”
Another user commented, “For a moment, I was like Elon Musk, impressive, huh, and then read the post AI fooled me again lol.” A third wrote, “Clever way to highlight such an important point about the risks of misinformation.”
A fourth person commented, “This is really scary. Soon we will need AI detector systems in our phones and computers which will detect whether the photo or video we are watching is real or AI made.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Kanakaraju graduated in engineering from Anna University, Chennai, in 2008, and soon launched his first venture, which he ran for over four years. After a stint in the corporate sector, he went on to start new companies in 2021 and 2024, one of which he now heads as CEO.
