Illia ‘Golem’ Yefimchyk, popularly referred to as the world’s “most monstrous” bodybuilder owing to his towering six-foot, 154-kilo figure, has died following a severe heart attack. The Belarusian athlete was 36.
According to various Belarusian and Russian media outlets, the athlete fell into a coma after the heart attack on September 6, and died on September 11.
A report in the New York Times, citing local media, quoted Yefimchyk’s wife Anna as saying, “I spent every day by his side, hoping, and his heart started beating again for two days, but the doctor gave me the terrible news that his brain had died.”
An Instagram account @whoisthebestbb made a post confirming Yefimchyk’s death. The caption said, “Close sources confirm the death of Illia Golem, the 340 LBS beast.”
According to Muscle and Fitness magazine, Yefimchyk was also known as “The Mutant”. The athlete earned the nickname “Golem,” too, as the mythical creature symbolises strength and resilience.
The report also said that Yefimchyk had seven meals daily, amounting to a whopping 16,500 kilo calorie-diet, and that it included 2.5 kg of steak and 108 pieces sushi. His chest measured 61 inches and biceps 25 inches.
Yefimchyk, according to the magazine, took up bodybuilding after being inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.
