The 2024 Paris Olympics has ignited a pool of viral moments. On Thursday, the Internet is buzzing with a new meme around Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec, 51, who bagged the silver medal with Sevval Ilayda Tarhan at the mixed team 10-meter air pistol event.
In the viral photo that has already become a meme, Dikec can be seen sporting a casual T-shirt, with one hand in his pocket and standing with a certain “swag” while taking aim. Sharing the photo, industrialist Anand Mahindra wrote, “SWAG. This man just explained the meaning of the term to us.”
Take a look here:
Born in Tasoluk village of Goksun district in Kahramanmaras Province, Turkey, Dikec started his sport shooting career in 2011. According to reports, the retired non-commissioned officer of the Turkish Gendarmerie set a new world record in the 25 m center-fire pistol event at the CISM Military World Championships in 2006. Dikec scored 597 points in the event.
In 2013, Dikec became a double gold medalist in the 25 m standard pistol and 25 m center-fire pistol competitions. Cut to 2024, he secured the second position, bagging a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
Reacting to Dikec’s photo, one X user wrote, “He casually walked in, took out his piece, took the shots, and just as casually walked out without even waiting for his medal. I think he’s done this before — under different circumstances, of course.”
“51 yr old Turkish guy (Dikeç) with no specialized lenses, eye cover or ear protection and got the silver medal. Hand in pocket comfort level!” another user commented.
Sharing the viral photo, a user wrote, “Dude looks like he just decided to join the Olympics when he woke up this morning.”
Meanwhile, India’s Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh secured a bronze medal in the same event.
