When someone mentions New York, it’s almost impossible not to think of Times Square, one of the world’s busiest pedestrian areas, the heart of the Broadway Theater District, and a place known for its dazzling digital billboards, neon lights, and massive video screens. But can you imagine a quiet morning in Times Square where people are simply sitting and reading?

Yes, that happened. Recently, over 100 people gathered at Times Square just to read. A video that has since gone viral shows bookstagrammer Jacey Adler sharing her experience of this unique event, describing it as “one of the coolest experiences I’ve done in New York City.”

The video captures people arriving at Times Square early in the morning, and being peacefully engrossed in their books. In a voiceover, Jacey describes the surreal atmosphere: “Over a hundred people woke up before sunrise, put their phones away, and came together to read this morning in the middle of Times Square.”

She also said, “The contrast of peaceful reading and music in such a busy place was so surreal.”

To make the event even more special, best-selling author Nicholas Sparks, surprised the readers by making an appearance. Jacey called this moment “the cherry on top for this event.”

Jacey posted the video along with a caption that reads, “100 people reading together in NYC in times square was definitely not on my 2024 bucket list but is fulfilling my bookworm dreams. Things to do in NYC that aren’t eating or drinking.”

The video has gone viral with over two million views

Another user commented, “We need something positive like that in this day and age.”

Many users asked for the details saying they would like to join the next time. An individual wrote, “THIS IS AWESOME!!! Were is the schedule!?? I want in!!!”

A fourth person commented, “Would love to find more of these types of things to do with my daughter. She’s a huge reader. Are they listed anywhere?”
