A newlywed couple’s honeymoon took a tragic turn when their cruise ship sank, forcing them to cling to a single life jacket for survival. The harrowing incident occurred on March 2 while Brazilian doctor Caio Gomes and his wife Fernanda Diniz, a businesswoman, were enjoying a cruise in the Maldives, according to Newsflash.
The couple revealed that they had to share one life jacket until they were rescued. They also captured the ordeal on camera. Gomes said that they had been sailing for just 40 minutes when a powerful wave struck the boat, eventually causing it to sink.
The boat did not go down immediately. Instead, it continued sailing for another 20 minutes before gradually tilting to the right, Gomes told Daily Mail. Despite the crisis, the crew allegedly did not inform passengers that the ship was sinking. Instead, they simply instructed everyone to put on life jackets and jump into the water, Gomes claimed.
“Nobody got hurt. There were no injuries, no scratches, nothing, just psychological trauma, because it was a huge blow for us,” Daily Mail quoted Gomes as saying.
The couple discovered that neither of their life vests would inflate. With no other option, they swam until they stumbled upon a lone lifejacket. The now-viral video shows passengers wearing their life jackets and floating in rough seas. It also captures many passengers inflating their life jackets by blowing air into them.

The video sparked mixed reactions, with many social media users criticising the couple for prioritising recording the terrifying incident instead of trying to save themselves from drowning. “I swear people will record ANYTHINGGGGG,” a user wrote. “That’s some Titanic love,” another user commented.
“Proof that Jack could’ve survived the Titanic,” a third user said. “People always looking for their next Insta reel,” a fourth user commented.
