YouTube megastar Darren Watkins Jr., better known as iShowSpeed, marked an unforgettable moment on June 5, when he hit 40 million subscribers on his channel. And true to form, the celebration was nothing short of chaotic.
Famous for his unpredictable behaviour, intense energy, and obsession with Cristiano Ronaldo, Speed has built a massive global following by always keeping viewers on their toes. But even by his own standards, this celebration took things to another level.
As Europe’s classic anthem The Final Countdown blasted in the background, Speed watched his sub count tick upwards in real time. The second it crossed the 40M mark, teal-coloured pyros went off around him, and the streamer, hyped beyond belief, began smacking his chest and head.
Then came the moment fans were bracing for—or maybe not. Speed took a few steps back, charged towards his setup, and dove headfirst into it. The stream abruptly cut off. When the feed returned, he was on camera again, this time with blood running down his face. Still amped, he stood up, only to collapse again, killing the stream once more.
Clips of the wild moment quickly made the rounds online. One viewer wrote, “Nothing prepared me for this moment.” Others, less amused, questioned the over-the-top stunt. “Who watches this and actually finds it entertaining and funny?” one asked. Another user commented, “Speed might be lowkey mentally disabled celebrating like this.”
Fans who’ve followed Speed long enough might remember his 20 million subscriber celebration in 2023, which also ended in self-inflicted chaos. But this time, the stakes (and injuries) seemed higher.
Speed’s wild energy wasn’t just confined to his streaming room this week. The YouTuber was also spotted at the UEFA Champions League Final in Munich, where he had a headline-grabbing run-in with none other than NFL legend Tom Brady and his daughter, Vivian Lake Brady.
