‘In cozy shelves I do reside, it’s nearly noon’: ChatGPT clock displays time poetically

In the AI clock, 11: 38 am reads as “Eleven-thirty eight, don’t hesitate/ Time to savor life, don’t be late”. The clock also gives a dose of motivation every minute, “It’s time to explore, let your spirit soar/11: 34 AM don't wait anymore.”

The buzz over the AI chatbot ChatGPT refuses to die down, with many of its feats continuing to impress netizens. Now a man has claimed that he has made an AI clock that composes a new poem every minute using the chatbot.

Matt Webb shared photographs of time depicted by the AI clock poetically. “I made an AI clock for my bookshelves! It composes a new poem every minute using ChatGPT and mysteriously has this enthusiastic vibe which I am totally into https://instagram.com/p/Cp44-AMNyd9/” read his tweet.

In the AI clock, 11: 38 am reads as “Eleven-thirty eight, don’t hesitate/ Time to savor life, don’t be late”. The clock also gives a dose of motivation every minute, “It’s time to explore, let your spirit soar/11: 34 AM don’t wait anymore.”

“Hand on heart I did not include this kind of motivational positivity in the prompt! I did describe the room from its pov, so it sometimes refers to books or the rug, or its own self as a small e-ink screen Tbh I can’t look away. I need to get lunch but it’s compelling & magical,” Webb added in the comments section.

Referring to itself, the AI clock says with rhythm, “In cozy shelves I do reside/ It’s nearly noon.” “11:51, time to be bold/Minutes tick by, stories untold,” reads another text in the clock.

Netizens were intrigued by the clock and wanted to know more about it. A Twitter user commented, “Super awesome! I’m hovering above the buy me button for the inky frame as well now //ht @mappletons 😂 Are you using GPT-4 for this? Or is this turbo?” Another user wrote, “What a cool clock!” A third user commented, “I would buy this in a heartbeat!”

The clock is powered by an old Inky wHAT screen (electronic paper) and Raspberry Pi, which was earlier set up as a normal text clock.

Webb told The Verge news website, “There’s a single prompt to ChatGPT, and the clock uses OpenAI’s API. The time is a parameter to the prompt. The prompt instructs the AI to respond with two rhyming lines, and encourages it to be imaginative and profound.”
