Autorickshaws are a common feature across roads in India. These humble public transport vehicles usually come in basic models. However, innovative drivers are often seen adding a personal twist to the three-wheelers in a bid to ‘upgrade’ them.

The video of one such vehicle is going viral now. The short clip shows an autorickshaw fitted with a cooler on its rear side. Judging by the three-wheeler’s registration plate, it appears that the video was captured in Punjab.

Instagram user @kabir_setia shared the clip online on May 22. So far it has gathered over 3.6 lakh likes. Commenting on it, a user wrote, “Mini BMW ”, while another quipped: “I am giving money to the wrong auto driver. ”

In fact, this is not the only autorickshaw to have caught netizens’ fancy in recent years. In November 2019, Satyawan Gite, a Mumbai-based autorickshaw driver made news for creating a unique ‘home system auto-rickshaw’, equipped with facilities like a washbasin, mobile phone charging points, plants and even a television screen. A sticker on the back of the vehicle asks passengers to, “Take aeroplane ride experience”.

Similarly in May last year, Mahendra Kumar, an autorickshaw driver from Delhi, had a brush with fame after the video of a garden atop his vehicle went viral. Kumar had grown a little kitchen garden with 25 kinds of plants such as tomatoes, okra, snake gourd and spinach on the roof of his three-wheeler. The garden, he said, protected him and his passengers from direct sunlight and also lowered the temperature inside the vehicle.
