Bollywood’s Arijit Singh has given numerous hits over the years. With songs like Tum Hi Ho, Kesariya, Tum Kya Mile, and several others, Singh has become an industry regular. The singer has now added another feather to his hat by becoming the ‘most-followed’ musician on Spotify globally, leaving behind the pop sensation Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.
Singh now has 118.69 million followers on Spotify.
Currently, Swift holds the second position with 117.18 million followers, followed by Britain’s Ed Sheeran with 115.01 million followers. Other artists in the list are Ariana Grande with 98 million followers and Billie Eilish with 96 million followers, occupying fourth and fifth places, respectively.
In August 2023, Singh had a brief victory as he surpassed Swift. However, Swift bounced back quickly. Singh made headlines when he became the first Indian music artist to cross 100 million followers on Spotify. Apart from Singh, A R Rahman, with 49 million followers, is the only other Indian artist in the Top 20.
Swift released a studio album titled The Tortured Poets Department this year, and was a hit among her fans. Singh saw back-to-back successes with releases like Sajini from Laapataa Ladies, Satyanaas and Tu Hai Champion from Chandu Champion and Thainu Khabar Nahi from Munjya.
