We all have vacuum cleaners, safely hidden away in a cupboard or loft, gathering more dust than it is supposed to clean. This is where the Dyson V series vacuum cleaners have been able to make a big impact. They are hanging on a wall, never out of sight and never out of mind. Also, they don’t present the tangles of regular vacuum cleaners as they are wireless and hence more convenient to use. With the new Dyson V11, the UK-born global technology company is taking its wireless vacuum cleaners to a whole new level in terms of sheer power and convenience. Yes, the Dyson V11 does look like the older version of its lightsaber-like dust suckers, with most of the attachments also remaining the same. But there is one notable change: the addition of an LCD screen at the back that lets you know how much power the device has and which mode — eco, med and power — it is in. With earlier devices, there was no way to know how much juice the device had after you had used it for a while. There is one more addition — a stand that makes it more convenient to store the vacuum cleaner when not in use. While it does add a bit of clutter to a small house like mine, if you have space then the stand ensures the device is available for quick draw and is hence used more. Also, this means you don’t have to drill your wall like before. Generally, power is something you don’t really have to worry about while using a Dyson device, be it a fan, air purifier or vacuum cleaner. After all, this is a company that designs and makes great motors. Same is the case with the Dyson V11 which is powered by a motor of the same name. The company claims the new motor offers 40 per cent more suction power than its predecessor, the V10. You feel this when you switch from the default Med mode to power. Then all of a sudden the toffee wrapper that you had been trying to suck in has vanished and is swirling in the cyclone inside the transparent dust bin near your hand. You can feel the spurt in power in your hands too as the gun-like grips recoil a bit and pushes your arm back a hint. This is the power you can feel. And when you take your hand off the trigger, there is a twang that reminds you of the power that you had. Using a vacuum cleaner as powerful as the Dyson V11 can have embarrassing at times. For instance, the tonnes of dust that I had hiding in inside my fabric covered sofa is certainly not something to write home about. We don’t realise how much dust there is inside our households, especially on our beds, sofas and hidden in nooks and corners all around. The Dyson V11 comes with enough attachments to work for all of these uses cases — for cobwebs on the ceiling to dust on the window nets and living room carpets. Interestingly, the V11 is a bit smart too and knows when it has moved from a carpet to a hard floor and changes its performance accordingly. On a full charge, the Dyson V11 can offer you about an hour of cleaning in the eco mode. On power mode, you can expect about a third of this. So you will need to put this back on the charger every hour or so. The Dyson V11 is a great addition to any modern household and can do most of your dry cleaning jobs. The V11’s practical design also ensures that you use the vacuum cleaner when needed and not forget about it after the initial days.
