Microsoft pushing Windows 10 upgrade to users even if they didn’t reserve it

Microsoft has confirmed that it was pushing the auto-download files for Windows 10 on PCs all across, reservation or no reservation

Microsoft is pushing out to the Windows 10 upgrade files and keeping them ready on Windows 7 and 8 PCs with the auto-update feature, even for users who have not reserved the new OS.

According to news reports on Inquirer and Register, Microsoft has confirmed that it was pushing the auto-download files for Windows 10 on PCs all across.

Inquirer.net reported that a user had tipped them off about the forced auto-download and added that his Internet was slow for a week, until he discovered the problem of the auto-download. The user said that the computer tries to install the Windows 10 update “every time the computer is booted.”

Microsoft told Register, “For those who have chosen to receive automatic updates through Windows Update, we help customers prepare their devices for Windows 10 by downloading the files necessary for future installation.

As Register points out that the problem with this auto-download is that those who are on a metered Internet data connection could suddenly find that they’ve run out of their data limit thanks to the Windows 10 auto-download feature on their computers.

The 64-bit Windows 10 OS is around 3GB points out the report, and for those will low disk space, the surprise download can be a further hassle.

With Windows 10, Microsoft also brings an auto-update feature, which means users can’t always pick and choose which updates should get downloaded, installed on their PC, although this does not work on a metered WiFi data connection.
