If you use WhatsApp on an older iPhone, you may soon need to upgrade to a newer model to continue using the app. WhatsApp’s updated policy will soon require a more recent version of iOS, impacting older devices.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will stop functioning on certain iPhone models starting May 2025. This includes popular devices like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, as these models are capped at iOS 12.5.7, the last software update they received.

Under the new policy, WhatsApp will no longer support iPhones running on iOS 15.1 or older versions. This change means devices ineligible for future iOS updates will lose access to WhatsApp.

Currently, WhatsApp supports iPhones running on iOS 12 or newer. However, the latest TestFlight version of WhatsApp requires iOS 15.1 or newer to ensure optimal performance and access to the app’s latest features.

If your iPhone is still on an older version of iOS, it’s recommended to install the latest available software patch. If your device is no longer eligible for updates, upgrading to a newer iPhone or an Android phone may be necessary to keep using WhatsApp. Additionally, remember to back up all your chats to iCloud before transitioning to a new device.
