Dubbed ‘Microsoft Mesh’, the new feature was under development for a while and is finally being integrated into Teams. The tech giant says Mesh works with and without a VR headset, but the experience won’t be that immersive.
Available on both Meta’s Quest VR platform and PC, Mesh offers pre-made 3D immersive spaces for meetings and social gatherings. Companies can customise these virtual spaces to include things like informational videos, presentations and more.
Microsoft Teams users can design and customise an avatar to their preferences and host multiple simultaneous group discussions. The tech giant even added support for spatial audio and live reactions. Mesh will also allow people to move away from other participants in the virtual space so they can have a private conversation.

The company says Mesh is based on Unity, the popular game engine used by millions worldwide. Microsoft Mesh is already available in the Meta Quest app store.
While all standard Mesh features like immersive space will be available for free to those on the Microsoft Teams business plan, a Teams Premium license will be needed if you want a customised immersive experience. The tech giant is offering a free six-month trial to those on a business or enterprise plan, but if you are planning to buy it individually, the monthly price ranges from $4 per use for those on the Essentials plan to $57 per month for Microsoft 365 E5 users.
