A few months ago, Google introduced AI Mode – its AI-powered Search experience that lets users perform deeper and more complex search queries in India.

Powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5, the functionality is really useful for “longer, more complex and nuanced questions” that would previously require multiple search queries, but the feature was previously limited to English.

In a blog post, Google has now announced that AI mode is now available in Hindi alongside four new languages – Brazilian Portuguese, Indonesian, Korean and Japanese.

This means users will now be able to ask complicated and more explanatory questions like finding local recommendations, understanding complex how-tos and planning a trip using text, voice or uploading an image.

For example, if users upload a picture of their balcony and ask “बारिश के इस मौसम में यहां एक छोटा सा गार्डन बनाना चाहता हूं. रात में खिलने वाले कौन से खुशबूदार पौधे लगाऊं ताकि चाय पीते हुए लोकल ट्रेन और शहर का नज़ारा देख सकूं?”, which translates to “In this rainy season, I want to create a small garden here. Which fragrant plants that bloom at night should I plant so that I can enjoy tea while watching the local train and the city view?”, AI mode will understand the complex query and come up with a personalised answer.

“With this expansion, more people can now use AI Mode to ask complex questions in their preferred language, while exploring the web more deeply,” said Hema Budaraju, VP of Product Management at Google Search.

In a statement to indianexpress.com, Budaraju had previously said that Indians “are appreciating the speed and the quality of the response and the freshness of the content that’s coming back.”

Google’s AI Mode is currently accessible via a dedicated tab on the search results page and can also be used using the button in the searh bar. However, the tech giant might be considering making it the default option.

Last month, Google added agentic features to AI Mode, which allows it to find restaurant reservations, with plans to let it make local service appointments and even ticket bookings in the near future. Currently, these features are limited to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US, which is priced at $249.99 per month.
