Google might release Android 14 on October 4, the same day as Pixel 8 series

Android 14 might not be a huge update in terms of user interface, but the latest version of Android will bring several new features and under the hood changes.

Google might start rolling out Android 14 the same day the company launches the much anticipated Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The upcoming operating system for mobile devices will bring several new features and under-the-hood changes.

According to a forum post on the Canadian network operator Telus’ website, Android U (Android UpSideDownCake) has an ‘approx date’ of October 4. A now archived support page on the telecom provider’s website hinted the update will be available on the Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 5, Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 4a.

While the Pixel 4a non-5G variant was ineligible for Android 14 beta, it won’t come as a surprise if the device gets updated to the latest version because the phone is identical to the Pixel 4a (5G)  with Google promising support till November 2023.

Android 14 seems to be an incremental upgrade over its predecessor but brings some new features like ‘battery cycle count’, ‘repair mode’ and the ability to continue using apps from the inner display to the outer screen.

If true, this will be the second time Google releases a new Android version the same day it launches Pixel devices. The same happened 2 years ago when Android 12 debuted on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) website alongside the Pixel 6 series.

Earlier this year, the tech giant gave us a glimpse of Android 14 at the Google I/O 2023. While many thought Google would release the latest version of Android in August, Android 14’s beta program ended on September 20, hinting at an October launch window.
