WhatsApp, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform with more than 2 billion users worldwide is often updated with new and useful features. As it turns out, the developers are reportedly working on a new functionality that would allow users to create their very own AI-powered characters.

According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp v2.25.1.26 beta for Android replaces the ‘Communities’ tab with a new ‘AIs’ tab. Similar to the Meta AI Studio tool for Instagram, the new feature will allow users to build custom AI chatbots with traits of their choice.

For example, users will be able to create AI chatbots that can help you with productivity, offer personalised assistance, encourage you when working out or keep you updated about the latest news.

While AI chatbots aren’t new for WhatsApp users, the ability to create personalized chatbots is something that many may find useful as every AI character will most likely have different traits than those created by others.

As for the Communities tab, it looks like WhatsApp is planning to move it to the main Chats tab. Since all of this is currently under development, there is no information on when the functionality will be available to everyone, so you have to wait a while before being able to create your very own AI-powered WhatsApp chatbot.

Last week, WhatsApp started rolling out a built-in document scanner on the iOS version of the app, which eliminates the need for a third-party app scanner. The company also recently expanded WhatsApp Pay, a UPI-powered payment service that enables WhatsApp users to send and receive money amongst each other.
