Meta has been gradually integrating new AI-powered features into its products like Facebook and Instagram, and the latest one to get the generative AI treatment is its popular instant messaging service – WhatsApp.
Earlier this year at the Meta Connect 2023, the tech giant announced that it would soon add an AI chatbot to WhatsApp. Previously available to a handful of users living in the United States, a report by WABetaInfo has discovered that the latest WhatsApp beta for Android now has a new shortcut button that lets users quickly access the company’s AI-powered chatbot without having to navigate through the conversation list.
In September this year, Meta unveiled its new ChatGPT-like general-purpose AI chatbot which can help out users with everything from answering queries to planning trips. The company also announced a partnership with Microsoft’s Bing Chat, which will help the chatbot to offer real-time web results.
Similar to text to text-to-image generators like MidJourney and Bing Image Creator, the new AI assistant can also make users create realistic-looking images from scratch using a ‘/imagine’ command for free.
Meta AI uses a custom model uses a combination of Llama 2 and the company’s latest large language model research, with Meta claiming it can “make recommendations in a pinch, make you laugh when you need a good joke, settle a debate in a group chat and generally be there to answer questions or teach you something new.”
