On his first day as President of the United States, Donald Trump signed an executive order delaying the TikTok ban by 75 days. He said he wanted his administration “to determine the appropriate course of action.” While the ByteDance-owned video-sharing platform is temporarily back in the United States, Elon Musk’s X and the decentralised social media platform Bluesky are stepping up their game by launching their own TikTok-like vertical video feeds.
We had to get in on the video action too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video!

In a post, Bluesky announced that they are getting in “on the action” and announced a new video tab that can be accessed from the Search tab on the mobile version of the app. Users have to option to choose if they want to pin or unpin the newly introduced video tab, and similar to TikTok, you can swipe up to enter a timeline of video-only posts. However, unlike Instagram Reels, posts that contain videos in the normal feed won’t automatically redirect to endlessly scrolling videos.
Alongside the like, share, comment and repost buttons, users also get a three-dot menu that offers access to options like copying or translating captions, mute threads, words, and tags and telling Bluesky that they want or don’t want to see similar videos.
An hour before Bluesky announced its new videos tab, Elon Musk-owned X also unveiled its very own vertically scrolling video feed. It can be accessed by tapping on the play button-like icon that resides next to the Grok icon. However, at the time of writing, the new feed is only visible to those who live in the United States.Apart from Bluesky and X, Meta-owned Instagram also seems to be capitalising on TikTok’s uncertain future. The platform recently made changes to the profile grid, which is now rectangular instead of square. While the change has caused quite a backlash, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that they are “going to improve the ability to customize those thumbnails” and a new future that lets you directly upload posts to the grid.
