Juhi Parmar recently shared a cough remedy that she always swears by. “Say no to cough this winter season with this simple home remedy,” said Parmar. In the caption of her Instagram post, she added: “When the season changes, our body feels it first…and so does that stubborn cough. Sharing a simple home remedy that has always worked… Hope it brings you comfort too.”
How to prepare the mix?
In a bit of honey, add black pepper powder and ginger juice. Mix all together and have.
Does this remedy work?
Dt Amreen Sheikh, chief dietitian, KIMS Hospitals, Thane, said that when seasons change, many people first notice it in their throat. A mild cough can quickly become persistent, the chest may feel tight, and even breathing in cold or dry air can irritate. “That’s usually when simple home remedies return to daily life. One popular mix-honey, black pepper, and ginger juice-is something many households rely on. It’s quick to prepare, easy to take, and often provides instant comfort. From a nutritional standpoint, these ingredients work together in a gentle yet effective way,” said Sheikh.
Why do honey, ginger, and black pepper make a helpful combination for a cough?
Each ingredient offers specific benefits. “Honey has natural soothing properties that coat the throat and reduce the urge to cough. Ginger provides warmth that helps loosen mucus and alleviate the heaviness that builds up during seasonal irritation. Black pepper improves circulation and helps the body release congestion. When combined, they create a mix that eases throat discomfort while helping the body recover from inflammation and dryness,” said Sheikh.
Is this remedy safe for everyone?
Most people can use this mix without any problems, but a few groups need to be careful. “Honey should not be given to children under one year old. People who frequently have acidity may find ginger or black pepper too strong and might need to reduce the amount. Anyone who feels burning in the throat or stomach after taking the mix should change the ingredients or stop using it. This blend offers comfort but is not a substitute for medical advice if symptoms are severe,” said Sheikh.

How should someone take this mixture for the best results?
The remedy works best when taken slowly, allowing the honey to coat the throat. “Small amounts once or twice a day are usually sufficient for early-stage or seasonal coughs. Many people find it especially soothing to take in the evening since it helps reduce nighttime coughing. Using fresh ginger juice and high-quality honey results in the best experience,” said Sheikh.
What to note?
These remedies are suitable for mild, irritating coughs that come with sudden weather changes. However, if the cough lasts more than a week, causes fever, shortness of breath, chest pain, or unusual fatigue, the body might be signalling something more serious.

“Home remedies provide support but work best when combined with an understanding of the body’s limits. Listening to early symptoms is just as important as trusting familiar kitchen ingredients,” said Sheikh.
