Elon Musk-owned microblogging platform X has been testing long-form videos for a while, and the company is now reported to launch a dedicated app for smart TVs. Initially, the app will be available for televisions running on Fire OS (Amazon) and Tizen OS (Samsung), and the company is likely to expand to other popular platforms like Google TV OS and Apple tvOS.

A report from Fortune suggests that the upcoming X app for smart TVs will launch in a week and is said to offer YouTube-like features and user interface. Elon Musk has officially confirmed the same while responding to a user post on X.

YouTube is currently one of the most popular free-to-use video streaming platforms in the world, and Elon Musk is positioning X as an alternative platform. Musk has also stated that users can utilise the Apple AirPlay feature to stream videos from the platform on a big screen. With a dedicated app, it will be even more intuitive for users to consume content from the platform.

Since the acquisition of Twitter, Musk has been pitching it as the “everything” app and recently introduced native audio and video calling capabilities. The company is also said to be working on adding payment-related features, allowing users to send and receive money without leaving the app.

X has also introduced additional features like the ability to post long-form content, edit posts, blue tick marks, and access to the Grok generative AI model for premium users. The premium subscription also enables an ad-free user experience, which costs Rs 1,300 a month when subscribed from a desktop.
