Redmi India today announced that the much-anticipated Redmi 12 will be launched in India on August 11. Successor to the Redmi 10, which was launched back in 2021, the upcoming phone will have a glass back and a triple camera setup.
A micro website on Redmi India also reveals that the phone will be available in silver, but the company is yet to reveal the specifications. Redmi 12 was launched earlier this year in China and sports a 6.79-inch IPS LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. The company says the phone comes with ‘AdaptiveSync display’, which can switch between 36Hz, 48Hz, 60Hz and 90Hz refresh rate to save power and has a peak brightness of 550 nits.
Powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 chipset, the phone offers up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, but it is still unclear if this variant will be available in India. On the back, you get a triple camera setup with a 50MP main camera accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro sensor whereas the front of the phone packs an 8MP selfie camera that can record videos in 1080p at 30fps.
Like all recently launched phones, the Redmi 12 might be backed by a 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It might also retain the 3.5mm headphone jack and offer IP53 water resistance but lose out on 5G connectivity since the Helio G88 is a 4G chipset.
The phone will most likely run on MIUI 14 based on Android 13 out of the box and is expected to cost under Rs 15,000.
