OnePlus 6T global launch is set for October 29 in New York. The upcoming smartphone might be seen as an incremental update to the OnePlus 6 launched in May this year, but it will feature a host of changes. The biggest of these changes will the in-display fingerprint sensor on the OnePlus 6T.

OnePlus 6T is expected to get waterdrop-style notch as well, which will be smaller compared to the earlier variant. It will sport a bigger screen size and battery. Another major change could be the absence of a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Let us take a look at everything that will change in OnePlus 6T compared to the OnePlus 6:

OnePlus 6T with waterdrop-notch, bigger screen

OnePlus 6T will sport a waterdrop notch that we saw on Oppo R17, compared to a rectangular notch on OnePlus 6. This was leaked in image renders on OnePlus 6T posted by site, Winfuture. The screen size on OnePlus 6T is also expected to be bigger 6.4-inch. OnePlus 6 ships with a 6.28-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels.

OnePlus 6T with in-display fingerprint sensor

OnePlus 6T will ship with an in-display fingerprint sensor, which the company is calling ‘Screen Unlock’ and this will be the big change from the older phone. OnePlus 6 had a rear-fingerprint scanner. The feature was confirmed by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau in an email to CNET, who also explained the process used by in-display scanner to recognise fingerprints.

The presence of an in-display fingerprint scanner will make the phone slightly thicker by 0.45mm as compared to OnePlus 6 as the company says it had to re-arrange “internal hardware” to include the sensor. The technology requires an OLED panel and emits light on the surface to read the fingerprint from beneath the screen when the user touches the front panel.

Other phones that come with an in-display fingerprint sensor include Vivo X21, Vivo Nex and Oppo Find X.

OnePlus 6T with a bigger 3,700mAh battery, no 3.5mm headphone jack

OnePlus 6T will have bigger battery than OnePlus 6, the company has confirmed. While OnePlus 6 packs a 3,400mAh battery, the upcoming OnePlus 6T will ship with a 3,700mAh one. The new phone will not support wireless charging technology, Lau has confirmed, though it is expected to support the company’s proprietary DashCharge fast charging technology.

OnePlus 6T is expected to continue with vertically-stacked dual-rear cameras as seen on OnePlus 6. Though camera configuration is expected to remain the same as the previous variant, OnePlus 6T could feature a better low-light performance from the software side. A triple rear camera setup was speculated for OnePlus 6T, but that seems unlikely.
