On Tuesday, Google unveiled its latest lineup of Pixel smartphones and accessories at the Made by Google event, with the Pixel 9 being the compact and most affordable device. At Rs 79,999, when compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 9 is slightly expensive. However, it offers more RAM, improved design, and some new software capabilities.
When it comes to power and performance, the Pixel 9 is similar to its more expensive siblings in the lineup, as it is backed by the Tensor G4 chip. This time around, Google is offering 12 GB of RAM with 128/256 GB of internal storage.
The phone flaunts a 6.3-inch Actua display with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, and it comes in four colourways — Obsidian, Porcelain, Wintergreen, and Peony. It features a metal frame with a satin finish and a polished glass back. The Pixel 9 is also IP68 rated for water and dust resistance.
The Pixel 9 comes with a single nano SIM card slot and also supports eSIM. It is also equipped with a stereo speaker setup and supports spatial audio output when paired with a compatible earphone/headphone.
The dual-camera setup on the Pixel 9 includes a 50 MP primary wide-angle lens and a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, which can also take macro shots, and there is a 10.5 MP selfie camera with support for autofocus. All three cameras on the Pixel 9 can shoot 4K videos with up to 60 fps.
The Pixel 9 comes with an enhanced Gemini AI, which can find information from Google apps, along with exclusive features like Pixel Screenshot, which is an on-device AI feature that can analyse screenshots, along with an extensive range of AI-based image editing features such as enhanced Magic Editor and Circle to Search.
The Pixel 9 ships with Android 14 out-of-the-box and is eligible for seven years of OS, security, and Pixel drop updates, similar to the Pixel 8 (review) series. A 4,700 mAh battery fuels this device with support for up to 45W fast charging via the USB-C 3.2 port, and there is also fast wireless charging and reverse wireless charging support called Battery Share.
