Apple is finally ditching Touch ID on iPhones with the launch of the iPhone SE 4. Dummy images of the iPhone SE 4 posted on the Chinese social media platform Weibo suggest that the upcoming iPhone SE 4 will come with Face ID and a notch, similar to the iPhone 14, and is expected to be launched by early 2025.
This makes the iPhone SE 3 (review) the last smartphone from Apple to include Touch ID. Unlike the iPhone 15 series, the iPhone SE 4 retains a smaller notch, which was first introduced on the iPhone 13 series, and will have a significantly higher screen-to-body ratio compared to its predecessor.
According to the dummy 3D models of the iPhone SE 4, the button placement will be quite similar to the iPhone 15 (review), with a side button on the right, volume buttons and mute switch on the left. The iPhone SE 4 will also include a USB-C port and is likely to support up to 20W fast charging. Additionally, there will be wireless charging support with MagSafe.
The iPhone SE 4 is likely to offer a significant upgrade over the iPhone SE 3 in terms of design, features, and performance. This model is most likely to include a Full High Definition (FHD) resolution OLED screen, which is again an upgrade over its predecessor. On top of that, the smartphone is likely to offer a single 48MP primary camera, similar to the iPhone 15, and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens.
In terms of processing power, the iPhone SE 4 might feature the A16 Bionic processor, the chip that powers the iPhone 15, possibly paired with 6 GB of RAM. The company is also expected to double the storage on the base model to 128 GB. It will be a 5G-enabled device, and we can also expect to see features like an IP67/68 rating for water and dust resistance. Additionally, the device will support eSIM (embedded SIM) and WiFi 6 connectivity.
