Following the success of its Ray-Ban smart glasses, Meta is reportedly planning to expand its footprint in the wearable segment with five new products, including a new pair of premium smart glasses that would cross the $1,000 mark.

Codenamed Hypernova, the upcoming smart glasses is said to feature a built-in display on the bottom of the right lens which would show information like notifications, photos captured by on the device and even help translate conversations in real-time.

Now, a new report by Bloomberg suggests Hypernova can also run apps and have a home screen with horizontal icons, which look similar to the one on the Meta Quest.

Compared to the current version of Ray-Ban smart glasses, the upcoming product will have a more powerful camera and all features available on the current Wayfarer style Ray-Ban Metas, However, Bloomberg says “the new version will continue to rely heavily on the Meta View phone app.”

On the software front, Hypernova is expected to run on a highly customised version of Android, but it is still unclear if it will support any app store.

Speculations also suggest that users will be able to control Hypernova using a “neural” wristband controller. Codenamed “Ceres”, it will reportedly allow users to control glasses with gestures like rotating hand to scroll and pinch finger and thumb to select items.

However, due to the more powerful hardware and the inclusion of a built-in display, the smart glasses could cost well over $1,000, but Bloomberg says it would most likely be priced in the $1,300 to $1,400 range.
