Instagram is a photo and video sharing app by Meta (Image credit: Webster2703/Pixabay) Instagram is currently testing a feature that will identify and label AI-generated content. According to a screenshot shared by Alessandro Paluzzi on X microblogging platform, Instagram will soon start flagging AI-generated content to enhance transparency among users.
Once the feature will be out, the platform will be able to detect text, images, and videos generated by AI. As of now, it’s unclear if Instagram will only display a “generated by AI” label on content created using the built-in AI tools or if it can also detect any AI-generated content.

The feature could be based on Meta’s Llama 2, which is an open-source artificial intelligence AI model. The large-language AI model is already available for startups to create ChatGPT-like chatbots.
Lately, there has been a surge in AI-generated content in the last few months with the introduction of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google Bard. Major tech companies are adding generative AI into their core products. However, many including the European Commission worried that generative AI technologies could become fertile ground for the spread of misinformation and fake news. In fact, the EU wants big companies like Google and Microsoft to start labelling content created by AI without waiting for digital laws to come into effect.
