MS Dhoni in action during Chennai Super Kings' game. (IPL/BCCI) Mahendra Singh Dhoni punished Khaleel Ahmed and then marshalled his bowling resources to perfection as Chennai Super Kings comprehensively beat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs to take a giant stride towards IPL play-off on Wednesday.
CSK coach Stephen Fleming was content with the way the home side batted and reckons that Dhoni’s cameo was valuable in the hard-fought 20 overs.
“He’s just training a certain way, he knows he’s not gonna bat for a long time. He concentrated more on the last three overs. He’s concentrated on really strong-headed practice,” Fleming said during the post-match conference.
“The wicket was really dry, it kept humming but the captain (MS Dhoni) was certain about batting today,” he said on the Chennai pitch and their decision to bat first.

When aksed about the top-order not being able to convert starts, he said, “It’s a reflection of the way games now are played, the players play with more high risks and the way you compose an innings is a little bit different so I’m happy with the cameos, its keeps you pushing above par.”
“What you’ve seen today, maybe a 160 wicket was turned into almost a possible 175-10 because we had positive intent through partnerships and guys playing aggressively.”
“Dube, Rayudu and MS in the end. We created enough to get ahead of the game even though we lost seven wickets,” he said.
The win took CSK to 15 points and one win from two remaining games will certainly seal their place in the last four. As far as DC’s campaign is concerned, it is almost certain with 8 points from 11 games with seven defeats.
