Yash Dayal ran with outstretched arms in celebration as his Royal Challengers Bengaluru tried to get hold of him after he defended 15 runs in the final over against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.

Talking about Dayal’s effort in the last over, Karthik said, “We knew it’ll take a humongous effort to stop them scoring from  the runs that were left in the last over. But Yash being Yash, the way he delivered, it was outstanding.”

“I think it was a very good team effort. Sometimes these kind of games really uplift the mood and we’re very happy with how it transpired today,” he added further.

Karthik was particularly impressed by the work ethic displayed by Dayal.”I think he’s right up there with some of the best that are there in India,” he said.

“The one thing that you see with the young crop of cricketers is how much they work hard at their cricket behind the scenes. Yash is again someone who’s very diligent. He comes to bowling meetings with a paper and will write down everything and later try to implement it in on the field,” explained Karthik.

Dayal was up against MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja in the final over. He executed the first two deliveries well to give only two singles and trapped Dhoni in front of the wicket.

However, his fourth ball was a height no-ball that was dispatched by Shivam Dube for a six. Dayal came back strong in the last three balls conceding just three runs to take RCB over the line.

Talking about the execution of plans by Dayal, Karthik said, “Yes, the execution could be up and down with him at times. But the one thing that you get, not get less from his effort. He always knows what to do. And when he’s able to deliver his yorkers, he feels so good about himself. And that’s one of the reasons why we retained him- because he’s got a special skill. And he’s someone who can handle pressure well. Same game, one year ago, he did it for us. And yet again today, he did a nice job for us.”

Currently, RCB are at the top of the points table with eight wins and three loss from 11 games. With 16 points in their kitty, RCB has planted one foot in the playoffs and another win will take them through to the knockout stages.
