Chandigarh: Hockey Patiala dominates, registers easy victory over EME Jalandhar

The match began with Hockey Patiala forwards making constant inroads in the opposition’s half. Their efforts soon paid dividends when Harshpreet scored the opening goal of the match with a successful conversion of a penalty corner in the 12th minute.

One goal each by Harshpreet, Gurshahzad and Prateek guided Hockey Patiala to a 3-1 win over EME, Jalandhar, in a match of 48th SN Vohra’s All India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament at Sector 42 Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The match began with Hockey Patiala forwards making constant inroads in the opposition’s half. Their efforts soon paid dividends when Harshpreet scored the opening goal of the match with a successful conversion of a penalty corner in the 12th minute. The Hockey Patiala forwards then stepped up the tempo and Gurshahzad scored the second goal of the match for the team with a field goal in the 36th minute.

Nine minutes later, Amit Kumar scored the opening goal for EME, Jalandhar, to make the score board read 1-2. Prateek scored the third goal for Hockey Patiala with a successful conversion of penalty corner in the 52nd minute to record a 3-1 win.

In another match of the day, CRPF scored a 3-2 win through penalty shootout over SGGS Club, Sector 26. In the regulation time, both the teams were tied 2-2.

Rabindra scored the opening goal of the match for the CRPF team in the 15th minute, before Sanjay scored the equaliser for SGGS Club in the 46th minute with a successful conversion of a penalty corner. Balram scored the second goal for CRPF in the 57th minute through a field goal to make the score board read 2-1 in favour of CRPF. Maninder scored the all important equaliser for SGGS Club in the 60th minute to take the match into penalty shootout.

In the third match of the day, Chandigarh XI scored a narrow 6-5 win over Northern Railway, Delhi. Om Prakash scored the opening goal of the match for Northern Railway in the second minute of the match before Sandeep scored the equaliser for Chandigarh XI in the third minute.

Dharminder scored the second goal for Northern Railway in the fourth minute of the match before Taranpreet scored the equaliser for Chandigarh XI in the 14th minute of the match. Om Prakash scored his second goal of the match for Northern Railway in the 18th minute of the match to make it 3-2 in favour of Northern Railway. Raman scored the equaliser for Chandigarh XI in the 29th minute before Gurjinder scored the fourth goal for Chandigarh XI to put the hosts ahead by 4-3 in the 35th minute.

Harpanth scored the fifth goal for Chandigarh XI in the 41st minute to make the score board read 5-3 in favour of the Chandigarh team. Six minutes later, Gurjinder scored his second goal for Chandigarh XI to make the team lead by 5-3. Sukhmanjit netted the fourth goal for Northern Railways in the 55th minute before Mohit scored the fifth goal in the 59th minute. In the end, Chandigarh XI won the match by 6-5.
