‘Reflection of our season’: Ruben Amorim reacts to ‘worst ever’ Manchester United season after 4-1 loss to Newcastle United

Manchester United is just three spots above the relegation zone with 38 points on the board -- a club record for all-time lowest.

The Red Devils suffered a humiliating 4-1 demolition at the hands of Premier League side Newcastle United. The PL fixture at St. James’ Park saw Ruben Amorim’s side continue their disastrous form, with the result also meaning that United is enduring its worst ever season at this point of a campaign.

Sat extremely low in the League standings at 15th, the club is just three points above 17th placed West Ham United. With the 4-1 loss, United is now on a 4-game winless streak, enjoying just 3 wins in their last 10 games in all competitions.

The game against Newcastle on Saturday forced head coach Ruben Amorim to admit that his side have been extremely poor this season. “It (the defeat) is the reflection of our season. We need to do things so much better. we need to improve in a lot of things”, said Amorim. In his first season at the helm, the club has broken the record for the worst ever League season, 32 games in. The meagre 38 goals scored, 10 wins and 38 points on the board are an all-time lowest.

With even a top-half finish looking unlikely, the club needs to figure things out if they are to avoid further humiliation in the remaining six games. United’s only chance to win a trophy is the UEFA Europa League, in which they will play a heated second leg against Olympique Lyon at Old Trafford after throwing away the win in enemy turf in the first leg. On aggregate, the score is 2 goals apiece.
