Goa batter Snehal Kauthankar (314*) and Kashyap Bakle (300*) slammed the second and third-fastest First-Class triple hundreds by Indians during their Ranji Trophy partnership in a plate group match against Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday.
The 29-year-old Kauthankar went past his previous best of 250 from last week’s game against Mizoram and reached his maiden triple hundred in only 205 balls against a hapless Arunachal attack. Powered by 43 fours and four sixes, Kauthankar entered Lunch on Day 2 unbeaten on 305 with his partner Kashyap Bakle on 280 not out.
Last year, Arunachal bore a similar assault from Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal. Agarwal took 147 deliveries to achieve a triple hundred, making it the quickest-ever in all FC history. Agarwal also shattered a 39-year-old record held by Indian legend Ravi Shastri along the way by also scoring the fastest double-hundred in first-class cricket in 119 deliveries.

Incidentally, Kauthankar now stands third on the all-time First Class list, with only South Africa’s Marco Marais standing between him and Agarwal with a 191-ball triple ton for Border against Eastern Province in 2017-18.
Batting in reply to Arunachal’s paltry first-innings 84, Kauthankar walked in at No. 4 and forged a mammoth partnership with Kashyap Bakle who is also nearing in on a triple hundred. Kauthankar went past 200 in only 146 balls, the fourth-quickest in the Ranji Trophy, before motoring towards 300.
Post Lunch, Bakle reached his triple hundred in 269 balls with 39 fours and two sixes as Goa declared at 727/2 in 93 overs, with a whopping 643-run first-innings lead. Interestingly, Bakle’s triple ton followed Kauthankar’s to become the third-fastest by an Indian.
Bakle and Kauthankar also became only the second pair in First Class history to record a 600-plus partnership with their unbroken 606* in only 448 balls. Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara still hold the record (624) for the highest FC stand, achieving it in a Test against South Africa in Colombo.
