The Indian Express Mini Crossword has been uniting word nerds since July 2023. Our first few players that monsoon—bless those brave souls—used to see finish times of eight to 10 minutes, soldiering through all the muddy puns and strange trivia we would rain down on them daily. This trial by fire (or should we say, lightning?) would go on to make them incredible solvers, finish times peaking at 12 seconds. But to the beginners reading this, fret not. You no longer have to weather this storm to be able to enjoy crosswords. Why, you may ask?

For one, your setter has learned to make better grids. Seriously, don’t go too deep into the archives. They’re embarrassing.

Second, our early players kept an open mind before every game, and were very vocal about sharing feedback on @iepuzzles. With this kind of team-up, how could growth—on both sides—not happen?

Your collaborative spirit has now made our Mini Crossword one of the most visited in the world, a fun little tango between solver and setter coming alive every day. For those learning English, the Mini is a great way to pick up vocab without any study. For those into quizzing, we keep interesting—and deliberately diverse—nuggets of GK in there every day. See if you like what we do!
