Only difference of opinion,no rupture: Cong on UPA allies

Congress said that there could be difference of opinion among the UPA partners but there was no rupture of ties between them.

Congress said on Saturday that there could be difference of opinion among the UPA partners but there was no rupture of ties between them.

Talking to newspersons here, party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that unlike the NDA from which partners like the Trinamool Congress have snapped their ties, there is only difference of opinion over seats among the UPA partners.

“There are no differences on the issue of principles and it is clear on which side they would be siding after the polls,” Singhvi said.

On the failure to strike an electoral understanding with the SP and the RJD in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar,he said that despite all attempts to check the split in the secular votes, the alliance could not be formed.

On the Left’s reluctance to support the Congress in the next government formation,Singhvi said that their tally was likely to remain between 30 and 35 and if it remained under that,no one would even seek their support.

“It is always the dog who wags the tail and not the other way round,” Singhvi said, refusing to comment on any possibility of Congress seeking the support of the BSP,terming it as “hypothetical”.

Exuding confidence,he said that Congress would win more seats this time and its vote share would boost further. He was also critical of the SP for taking the support of Babri Mosque demolition accused Kalyan Singh.

On the Uttar Pradesh government’s claim of step-motherly treatment of the Centre to the state,Singhvi presented figures to reject the allegations.

There had been a hike of over 70 per cent in the central funds allocation to Uttar Pradesh from the previous NDA government, but the fund utilisation has been very poor,he said citing the figures.
