Govt indifferent to ‘mayhem’ in aviation industry: BJP

BJP has blamed government's indifferent attitude for the current dismal situation of the aviation industry.

Describing the on-going agitation by Jet Airways pilots and the resultant problems as “an obvious mayhem”,BJP on Thursday said government’s indifferent attitude is responsible for the current dismal situation in the aviation industry.

“There is an obvious mayhem in the aviation industry in India and the government is practically indifferent to the prevailing situation…The government has spelled out the doomsday for the aviation sector,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

“The government, which has been tom-tomming the exponential growth in domestic and international sector, had prompted the airlines to put in place major expansion and business plans which have hit a roadblock now,” he added.

He said if this trend continues “it would not be long before we find some of the major airlines shutting shops…we witness the concern exhibited towards Air India which causes inadvertent heartburn in the private sector”.

The former Civil Aviation minister claimed that while state-run Air India is “perennially sick”,private airline Kingfisher has run into a financial crisis.

“Other low-cost carriers like Spicejet and Indigo have been charging the private airport operators with burdening the airlines with excessive and irrational landing charges,” he said and expressed concern over growing unemployment in this sector.
