The BJP that posted on Monday how Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “not taken a day off” in nine years, is not giving the Opposition a break either. After the Parliament special session announcement and one nation-one election plans, the Modi government Tuesday gave a sneak peek of India renamed as Bharat.

Not long after, the Gujarat BJP posted a video tagged “Bharat ka rehne waala hoon, Bharat ki baat sunata hoon”, in which PM Modi stood in for ‘Mr Bharat’ Manoj Kumar in the take-off on the Bollywood song, as a phalanx of Opposition leaders rubbed their hands in consternation, much like those westernised faces did in the film.

The video carried the watermark of INDIA TV channel (too good to be a coincidence?).

Whether the idea was well-thought-through, though, is debatable, given that days from now, the Modi government will be laying out the red carpet for its guests from foreign shores for the G20 Summit.

In another foreign comparison, of the kind that often does not go down well with India’s new good friend Israel, the BJP posted a tweet equating Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks on Sanatan Dharma with Hitler’s remarks against Jews.

“Like Hitler, Stalin Jr also demanded, that Sanatan Dharma be eradicated… We know how Nazi hate culminated in Holocaust, killing approx 6 million European Jews and at least another 5 million Soviet prisoners of war and other victims. Uday Stalin’s meditated comment is unadulterated hate speech and a call for genocide of 80% population of Bharat, who follow Sanatan Dharma. Congress and I.N.D.I Alliance support for Stalin’s bile is most disconcerting,” the BJP posted.

Hitler reference also came up in CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya’s remarks on the suggestion that the government planned to rename India as Bharat. Accusing the government of planning “naambandi” now, after “notebandi”, Bhattacharya accused PM Modi of being “a mix of Hitler and Tughlaq”.

The Congress posted a cartoon showing a tiny Modi climbed up on a staircase to try and remove India word from the Preamble, tagging it “INDIA ko mitana namumkin hai”. Another post showed Modi with a terracotta soldier from his China visit asking the statue, “Iska bhi naam karan kar dun kya?”

If a BJP video Tuesday showed PM Modi interacting with award-winning educators on Teachers’ Day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took note of the day while using it to both underline his message of “love” and contrasting it to his rivals’.

In a post in Hindi on Facebook, Rahul wrote: “I consider great men like Mahatma Gandhi, Gautam Buddha, Sree Narayana Guru as my gurus, who gave us the knowledge of equality of all people in the society, and of showing compassion and love towards everyone.”

He saw even his opponents as teachers, Rahul added, as they “by their conduct, lies and words teach me that the path I am following is absolutely right – and to keep moving forward on it at all costs”.
