Cong poor showing due to non-performance,corruption: Orissa CM

Mulayam Singh is all set to form new govt in UP,while SAD-BJP combine retained power in Punjab.

Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said Congress’s poor showing in the Assembly elections was due to its “non-performance,false promises and reputation for corruption”.

“You can see from the results today of the various states that the Congress party has failed very badly. This is because of non-performance and making false promises,also everyone knows of their reputation for corruption,” Patnaik said on the polls results after meeting Food Minister K V Thomas here.

Counting of votes for Uttar Pradesh,Punjab,Uttarakhand,Goa and Manipur took place today.

Patnaik,who is also chief of Biju Janata Dal (BJD),said the Congress which has been making tall promises to the people,failed to fulfill them.

“This has angered people who no longer show trust on the Congress,” he added.

According to the latest poll trends,Mulayam Singh-led Samajwadi Party is all set to form the new government with clear majority,while the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP combine retained power in Punjab.

In Goa,BJP is all set to form the government,whereas in the hill state of Uttarakhand,BJP and Congress are locked in a neck and neck race.

The Congress,however,has come back to power in the North-East state of Manipur.
