BJP tells UPA to resolve woes of Sikhs in Pakistan

BJP called upon the UPA government to seek help of the international community to resolve the issue of Sikh families in tribal region of Pakistan.

Amid reports that the Taliban has reportedly auctioned houses of Sikh families in tribal region of Pakistan after they failed to pay tax (jaziya) to them,BJP on Saturday called upon the UPA government to seek help of the international community to resolve the issue.

BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member S S Ahluwalia told reporters here,”the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself being a Sikh should take up the matter with the international community”.

Ahluwalia said that the UPA government should get an advisory issued over the matter. “What has the Prime Minister done till now? Their (Sikh families) security should be taken care of,and for this the government should immediately seek international support,” he said.

The BJP leader added that “it is our responsibility.

Just like we are concerned about the plight of ethnic Tamils who are stuck in Sri Lanka, similarly we should think about the Sikh families who are being forced to pay ‘jaziya’ of around Rs five crore (as demanded) by Taliban”.
