91% for Rajiv killer in Class XII exams

A G Perarivalan had scored 1,096 marks of a total of 1,200,or 91 per cent,in the exam.

When the results of Tamil Nadu state board’s Class XII exams were declared today,two inmates convicted for Rajiv Gandhi assassination who are on death row had a reason to smile.

A G Perarivalan had scored 1,096 marks of a total of 1,200,or 91 per cent,in the exam,while fellow convict Sriharan alias Murugan secured 983 or nearly 82 per cent. To put their achivement in perspective,the student who came first in the state got 1,189 marks.

Perarivalan also got the most marks of all the prison inmates who took the exam this year in Tamil Nadu.

Along with Santhan,Perarivalan alias Arivu and Murugan have urged that their death term be commuted.

Two months short of his 20th birthday when the SIT investigating Rajiv killing arrested him,Arivu has completed bachelor’s and master’s in computer application under the open university system as well as six certificate courses in the nearly 20 years he has been behind bars. However,he wanted to clear Class XII under the mainstream system to be eligible for M.Phil.

Arivu scored 185 out of 200 in Tamil,169 in English,183 in History,182 in Economics,198 in Commerce and 179 in Accountancy. Sriharan scored full marks in Commerce,173 in Tamil,165 in English,138 in History,150 for Economics and 157 in Accountancy.
