n September 2018, the Court directed the governor to decide the pardon plea as he “deemed fit”. Within three days, the Tamil Nadu Cabinet recommended to the Governor to release all the seven convicts.

Perarivalan alias Arivu was 19 when he was arrested in June 1991. He was accused of having bought two battery cells for Sivarasan, the LTTE man who masterminded the conspiracy, and which were used in the bomb that killed Rajiv Gandhi.
