Saving face
* Apropos Invoking House,Singhvi steps down (IE,April 24),our legislators are used to invoking the House and their own party to cover their tracks. If Abhishek Singhvi really does not want disruption in Parliament over the alleged CD,he should have resigned even from the Rajya Sabha. Further,to vindicate himself,as a disciplined party soldier,he should request a probe into the canards and baseless allegations being spread about him. Mere verbal jugglery does not carry conviction.

Fools paradise
* This refers to Justice Markandey Katjus Ten ways of being foolish (IE,April 23). It is sad the learned writer calls the majority of Indians fools and superstitious because they follow astrology. It has become fashionable to deride astrology. The way Katju targeted one of the oldest sciences was in bad taste. Astrology paved the way for the development of astronomy in ancient India. Lagadha Munis book on astrology,Vedanga Jyotisha, gives details on cosmology.
Manoj Parashar Ghaziabad
* Justice Katjus ongoing attack on astrology is amusing, especially because it is a product of the Vedic wisdom which he seems to support. This should tell him that there are two sides to everything, including those eminent Tamilians who believe in astrology. It is also disturbing to see him club astrology,TV ratings and babas with honour killings and communal riots.
Shreesha S. Bhat Borivili
* The subject of Justice Katjus article is interesting, although its content might hurt many Indians. But they have the freedom to consider themselves among Katjus wise 10 per cent.

Stiff and dead
* Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjees comment that the UPA government does not suffer from policy paralysis is technically correct. There is no policy paralysis anymore since reforms are dead. Now,there is policy rigor mortis.

Govt plays dirty
* It is distressing that even after the censor board approved the telecast of The Dirty Picture with cuts, the government ordered its telecast only after 11 pm. This was done at the last minute.

Wrong foot
* The army chief,General V.K. Singh, has set a bad precedent by being the chief guest at a function to unveil the statue of former prime minister Chandra Shekhar. The army should distance itself from politics.
