In the aftermath of Abdul Karim Tundas arrest,the press coverage of the details he has divulged to his interrogators is a matter of concern. Will this not alert his handlers in Pakistan and his contacts in India to cover their tracks,destroy potentially incriminating evidence and go underground at the first available opportunity? Tunda is not going to be convicted on the basis of what he has been saying to his interrogators. He can only be convicted on hard evidence. Marshalling evidence is a painstaking job. Under the circumstances,it is not prudent to publicise his revelations before the relevant corroborative evidence has been assiduously collected. Regrettably,we focus too much on the spectacular and too little on hard work.

* This refers to Forgotten people (IE,August 19). The setting up of the Xaxa committee is a political stunt,the UPAs attempt to influence the vote of tribal communities. We dont need to establish a committee to inquire into the socio-economic status of tribal people. The ministry of tribal affairs is (or should be) competent enough to give us an idea of their status and a list of schemes applicable to them. We need to implement schemes and laws rather than set up new committees.

* This refers to Cong decides to put Rahul in the front,facade intact (IE,August 19). Whatever the Congress may say,I doubt it will place Rahul Gandhi at the fore of its poll campaign,where he might get hurt in the line of the oppositions fire. I wont be holding my breath for him to be declared the Congresss prime ministerial candidate. Unlike prime ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi,Gandhi lacks oratorical skills,combativeness and political experience. The Congress will not want Gandhis prestige to be dented by prominently displaying his obvious shortcomings. The party will,most likely,push Gandhi forward only if it wins a comfortable number of seats in Parliament. In the meanwhile,it will be up to some old Congress loyalists to bear the scars of battle.

His frank admission that he should not have been made secretary,archives,since he is not an expert on them,makes a strong case for parity between administrative and technical services in the government.
