Police constable among 6 govt employees held in Tripura for misappropriation of funds

The six accused were identified as Dipankar Sinha, Purnendu Ghosh, Biswanath Sinha, Sujan Sen, Zaheeruddin and Alkama Ali. All of them, except Zaheeruddin, are lower division clerks.

Six government employees, including one constable posted at the office of the Unakoti Superintendent of Police (SP), were arrested on charges of misappropriation of funds.

Assistant Inspector General (Law and Order) Jyotishman Das Chowdhury said the accused misappropriated miscellaneous funds meant for procurement of office stationery materials.

The six accused were identified as Dipankar Sinha, Purnendu Ghosh, Biswanath Sinha, Sujan Sen, Zaheeruddin and Alkama Ali. All of them, except Zaheeruddin, are lower division clerks.

Unakoti district superintendent of police Kanta Jangir said, “We got an audit report from the Unakoti district magistrate’s office on September 2 about misappropriation of Rs 20 lakh. Later, we constituted a high-level committee and started an inquiry into it. During our investigation, we found that the amount is higher as the accused had misappropriated funds.”

All the accused were forwarded to the Kailasahar court, said Jangir.

A case was lodged against them based on a complaint by DDO Feroz Mia. The accused were booked under Sections 409 (Criminal breach of trust by public servant), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using as genuine a forged), 120 (B) (Criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
