Shivani Mayekar was too strong for Maitreye Nigvekar in the midget girls’, recording a 15-minute 11-2, 11-6 win.

Warden wallop: The 12-year-old Warden displayed enough ambition to quell whatever little challenge that the canny Narayan could pose. The Campion School seventh standard student stayed ahead all through the 28-minute final, clinching the title after a tired Narayan netted his return at match point.

The GopiChand fan, who plays soccer and squash "occasionally", wants to make a career in the sport, which may not be a big problem for his parents since he does "okay" in school.

Bhide barrage: Anagha Bhide showed her mettle in the first game itself as she fought back four points from match point down.

Leading 6-5, Girija took four straight points to reach game point. But Anagha saved two game points and brought scores to 9-10 when one mistake did her in.

She netted a return and Girija found her nerve to close the match.

But it was Anagha from there on as she wrapped up the next game in five minutes and capitalised on Girija’s plethora of errors in the decider to take home the title.
