
Gandhi bust in Buenos Aires
NEW YORK: A bronze bust of Mahatma Gandhi has been unveiled in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires by its Mayor Dr Fernando de la Rua, reports reaching here on Wednesday said. The bust, unveiled on Tuesday at a glittering ceremony, has been installed opposite a street named after India in Plaza Cecilia. Indian community leaders and senior state officials attended the ceremony in which speakers stressed on the growing friendly ties between India and Argentina.

WASHINGTON: Republican Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah 8220;is considering8221; running for US President, his spokesman Paul Smith said. Hatch, a 65-year-old Mormon, could announce the formation of an exploratory committee within seven days, Smith said on Tuesday. His move follows that of Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona, and came as Republican Texas Governor and Presidential hopeful George W Bush met Republican senators here. Democrat President Bill Clinton8217;s term ends inJanuary 2001. Presidential elections will be held in November 2000.
Altered foods risky: Scientist
WASHINGTON: Some of the genetically altered foods could be risky for human consumption and should be labelled accordingly and kept separate from other foods, a leading US-based Indian scientist has said. Dr Rama Dwivedi, a diplomat with the American Board of Forensic Medicine gave his views at a national summit on the hazards of genetically-altered foods last week. The demand attracted much international attention and petitions with some 5,00,000 signatures were distributed supporting it.
