Removing a 8220;men only8221; tag from the elite In-Flight Superviser IFS post in Air India, the Delhi High Court on Monday lent support to a two-year-old Government order finding women cabin crew staffers eligible for appointment. The order came after the public carrier8217;s male cabin crew members, recruited in the year 1997, challenged the 2005 order as 8220;discriminatory8221;.
Advising the public carrier8217;s male staffers to adopt a 8220;cup-is-half-full8221; attitude than a vice-versa one, a division bench comprising Justices Mukul Mudgal and S Muralidhar said the eligibility of their women colleagues to the post would, instead of 8220;reducing chances of male staffers8221;, help cast off the 8220;men only tag8221; to the post.
8220;The order dated December 27, 2005 is not discriminatory to the male cabin crew. In fact, far from eliminating the possibility of the male cabin crew performing as IFS, it provides a chance to their female colleagues as well. In effect, it removes the 8220;men only8221; tag on the function of IFS,8221; the Bench said.
