What happens when a gifted child is subjected by peers, parents and society to that ultimate concern 8211; the pressure to conform 8211; is the unusual theme of The Boy Who Stopped Smiling, an English play. Women artists are at the fore with a display of their works at the Rabindra Kala Kunj. These are backed by an interesting range of films and plays.

National Film Archive Of India: 81/2 Italy/ 1963/ Bamp;W/ 138 min./ English subtitles. Directed by Federico Fellini, the cast includes Marcello Mastroianni and Sandra Milo. In some ways Fellini has created a 20th century version of The Inferno. At 6.30 p.m. on Saturday.

Max Mueller Bhavan: Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse The Testament of Dr. Mabuse 1932, 122 min., B/W. Directed by Fritz Lang, the camera is by Fritz Arno Wagner. The film continues the tale Dr. Mabuse. The villain continues his demoniac dealings in a lunatic asylum after bringing the director of the asylum, Dr. Baum, into his power. At 7 p.m. on Friday.

Alliance Francais De Poona: Adorable Menteuse Sweet Liar 8211; 1961/Bamp;W/120 min. Directed by Michel Deville, the cast includes Marina Vlady, Macha Meril, and Jean Francois Calve. The story of two sisters, young and pretty, leading a carefree life in an apartment in Paris. At 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Vegla Vhaychaye Mala: Directed by Shrikant Sathe, written by Bal Kolhatkar, the cast includes Vilaschakra Narayan, Anjali Jahkade and Vasudeo Rajpathak. At Balgandharva Rangmandir, 9.30 p.m. on Friday.

Haswa Fasvi: Written, directed and featuring Dilip Prabhavalkar in the lead role. The cast includes Leeladhar Kambli and Sushma Savarkar. At Tilak Smarak Mandir, 12.30 p.m. on Saturday.

To Mi Navech: Written by Acharya Atre and presented by Natyasampada. Prabhakar Panshikar will play the main role. At Balgandharva Rangmandir, 12.30 p.m. on Saturday.

Rashichakra: One act play presented by Sharad Upadhye. At Pimpri-Chinchwad auditorium, 9.30 p.m. and at Tilak Smarak Mandir at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday. At Balgandharv Rangmandir, 9.30 p.m. on Sunday.

Pan Amhala Khelaychay: Written and directed by Shrirang Godbole. At NMV Girls8217; High School behind SP College. At 7 p.m. on Friday.

Arangetram: Kumari Pallavi Thatte, student of Kalavardhini, Sahakar Nagar branch, will present her Arangetram first stage performance. She has been receiving formal training from her guru Smt Uttara Tulshibagwale for the last five years. At Tilak Smarak Mandir, at 5.30 p.m. on Sunday.

Women and Art: The second exhibition of fine art paintings by women artists is being organised by Smt Gangadevi Memorial Kala Mandir, Pune Camp. The SGM Kala Mandir is functioning since 1971 for the promotion of art under the personal guidance of G S Thakur.

The current exhibition will display versatile subjects by many women artistes some of them unknown so far. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Kaushalya A Sangtani at Rabindra Kala Kunj, 5.30 p.m. on Sunday. The exhibition will be open to public till Thursday between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Spectrum of Life: A display of oil paintings on canvas, ceramic tiles and silk by Naninder Kahlon at Inn Galleria Holiday Inn on Saturday and Sunday.
