
Down from the giddy heights of the past but still registering positive revenue and profit growth, soaps-to-software major Wipro Limited notched single-digit sequential growth percentages for the second quarter of the current fiscal.
In results announced Wednesday, Wipro registered a 9 per cent growth in revenue and 8 per cent growth in profits at Rs 6,507 crore and Rs 978 crore respectively over the first quarter of the fiscal.
The now aggregated IT services business of the company remained the primary driver notching revenues of Rs 4,750 crore. In dollar terms, the IT services revenue of 1110 million was ahead of the projection of 1,089 million made at the end of the last quarter.
Year on year, Wipro8217;s revenue growth for the second quarter has been logged at 36 per cent, profits at 19 per cent and IT services revenue growth at 36 per cent.
Wipro chairman Azim Premji described the company8217;s performance as 8220;satisfying8217;8221; in the context of the 8220;deteriorating global environment8221;. 8220;The global economic environment has deteriorated significantly, and our outlook is cautious in the near term,8221; he said.
