New hands are taking over in the Defence Ministry with the appointment of a new defence secretary. However, another appointment8212;at a junior level8212;is being watched with more interest. After managing the ministry8217;s complex affairs for over 10 months, A K Antony has finally got himself an adviser. Sundaram Krishna, a 1977 batch IAS officer who conducted the Punjab elections as the Chief Electoral Officer, has been appointed as adviser to the minister. The officer, who previously served a long tenure with the Cabinet Secretariat, will bring some key expertise to assist the minister. Insiders say that he had a stint with RAW and that was, perhaps, a key factor for his appointment.
